Did you know Grandparents' Day is a National Holiday? And that it's right around the corner (September 7)?!
When I was a kid, my school had a special assembly every year on Grandparents' Day. Our poor Meemaws and Papas and Nanas and Grampies had to climb up on cold, hard bleachers and endure an excruciating hour of singing and dancing — and pretend to enjoy it.
Bless their hearts. Bless our hearts.
Now that I'm a little older and realize that any grandparent — really, any person of any age/familial role — likely has desires for gifts other than pre-pubescent screechy serenades, I've spent some time compiling a list gift ideas that are, well, actually good.
So here they are: 6 Unique Gift Ideas for Grandparents' Day
A Custom Candle:Â My grandfather's office always smelled like his leather recliner and his hundreds of books. Now I can recreate that special aroma for him with a custom candle. Choose from 75+ unique scents like "Leather","Old Books","Baked Bread","Pipe Tobacco", and "Summer Lawn" to craft a one-of-a-kind candle just for your grandparents.
Table Topics Game: I love Table Topics and know your grandparents will too. This set of question cards will have y'all talking about everything from celebrity crushes to memorable meals. Pro tip: jot down everyone's answers so you can look back on them in years to come.Â
A Family Calendar: Any time I give a custom calendar, I know it's going to be a success. Add family photos, old snapshots of your grandparents, or even original artwork to a Shutterfly photo calendar. Bonus points: pre-fill the months with special dates like birthdays and anniversaries.Â
The Perfect Playlist: My siblings and I did this one year and it was so fun. Give a playlist of tunes that mean something to your grandparents — like the song from their wedding dance or the bop that was #1 the year they were born. Allow extra time to give a Spotify how-to tutorial!Â
Custom Sugar Cookies: I did this for my grandparents one year and it was a massive hit. There are lots of local and online bakeries that can "print" old family photos onto cookie icing; it's amazing... and tasty! The only problem: they're almost too cute to eat.
A Polaroid camera: This is one of my favorite things to gift. Buy your grandparents a polaroid camera and promise to take a selfie every time you're together. Add to an ongoing scrapbook or display on the fridge with cute magnets. Not only are polaroid cameras fun to use, but the pics serve as a reminder of all the fun you have together.
Grandparents always give the best presents (Barbie Dream House, anyone?!). I'd say it's about time we returned the favor. Happy gifting!
